4-BOLT CONNECTION SPECIFICATION
Description:
Elgen Flange & J Flange are premium 4-bolt connections. Elgen Manufacturing is customer oriented and understands that duct fabricators like to
have a choice, which is why Elgen offers both flange configurations. Both 4-bolt connections exhibit the following features:
- Fast, easy Installation.
- No additional sealant required.
- Connections match up to most other manufacturers systems.
- All components are guaranteed against defective material.
- The flanges are precision roll-formed from 20 GA galvanized (min G-60) steel.
- Flanges have factory installed mastic making them almost totally leak-free.
- The flanges are comparable to the SMACNA Class “J” traverse joint connection.
- The systems are not recommended for applications with duct gauges heavier than 16 GA, or lighter than 26 GA. The J Flange is available in “wide pocket” for use with 12 GA to 16 GA.
- Both systems are available in Stainless Steel #304, Stainless Steel #316, Aluminum, Galvaneal (Paint-Grip), and PCD Coated (4mil on both sides).
- All components are manufactured to the highest standards using state-of-the-art machinery.
Installation Guidelines
- Cut flanges 1-1/4” shorter than ductwork.
- Cut with mastic pocket on top to avoid metal falling into mastic.
- Use a carbide tipped metal saw blade when possible. Other blades can heat up the flange and cause the mastic to melt.
- Assembly frame with corners and install on the ductwork. Use a rubber or wooden hammer to ensure the frame is properly installed and the ductwork completely penetrates the mastic. This ensures there will be no air leakage along the connection.
- The corner of the duct must protrude out past the corner piece.
- Fasten within ¾” of the end of each flange using screws. For flanges over 24” add a screw to the middle of the flange. For flanges over 48” add screws spaced no more than 24” apart.
- When connecting sections of ductwork together, use Elgen #440 Gasket (or Elgen Neoprene Gasket for breakaway connections) between sections.
